Replacing your vehicle’s cabin air filter regularly ensures you and your passengers are breathing clean air inside the car AND ensures your air conditioning works properly all summer long.
Want to ensure your vehicle’s air conditioning blasts cold air all summer long? Here’s a simple and affordable maintenance tip: Replace the cabin air filter regularly.
Under the hood, the engine air filter keeps dirt and debris from getting into your engine. It ensures the engine is “breathing” clean air. Similarly, the cabin air filter cleans the air being circulated in the passenger compartment. This is the air you’re breathing.
It also plays an important role in your vehicle’s air conditioning (A/C) system. The air passing through the filter must also flow over the A/C evaporator, which operates at freezing temperatures, to prevent ice build up. If the air stops flowing, the ice builds and the A/C stops cooling. Inside the car, you’ll notice less air coming from the vents, and the air you do feel won’t be as cold.
Interestingly, once you park the car, the ice will melt and restore your A/C performance temporarily. You’ll have A/C the next time you drive – until the ice builds up again.
We have several weeks of hot weather left. Don’t let warm air from a clogged cabin air filter spoil the rest of your summer. At CARS of America, we check your cabin air filter as part of our multi-point checklist during a routine oil change. Not quite due for an oil change but want to know how your cabin air filter is doing? Schedule a no-charge filter inspection now.
