US to slash automotive emissions this decade

US to slash automotive emissions this decade

Recent news and analysis out of Washington, states that The US needs to set a target of slashing its greenhouse gas emissions between 57% and 63% below 2005 levels by 2030 if we hope to achieve the Biden administration's longer-term goal of net-zero emissions by 2050.     The Climate Action Tracker (CAT) analyzed President Joe Biden's plans to decarbonize the electricity sector, commercial buildings, and new vehicle fleet and found that in order for the United States to do its part to reach the goal of the Paris Agreement in limiting the rise of global temperatures to 1.5 degrees Celsius — it needs to cut at least 57% of its emissions by the end of the decade.   European Union officials and environmental groups are calling on Washington to reduce emissions at least 50% this decade below 2005 levels. This is no small order, but by most accounts,  President Biden's climate team is working with all US government agencies and holding meetings wi ... read more

Can't help but notice...

Can't help but notice...

I can't help but notice... When I was a kid in Northern Illinois, we had blue skies, puffy white clouds, and evening skies filled with stars and planets. Somewhere along the line, we developed Chicago-Gray skies and snow. Since February 2020, the skies are getting bluer; the clouds are getting white and puffy, and, for the past week, the night skies have been filled with stars and planets. Less traffic, better engineered and maintained vehicles, more and more Hybrid-Electric and Full-Electric vehicles are starting to pay off in a healthier, more uplifting environment. I don't know about you, but I would love to see the trends continue

How Much Do We Love Our Cars? Let Us Count the Ways

How Much Do We Love Our Cars? Let Us Count the Ways

It’s a cliche to say that we Americans love our cars. But just because something is a cliche doesn’t mean it isn’t 100 percent true. We do love our cars! Why, though? Well, cars mean freedom for a lot of us. What’s better than grabbing your keys and jumping behind the wheel to take off on the spur of the moment--on a road trip to a famous location, to visit an old friend, or just to pick up some late-night munchies? To a lot of Americans, our cars reflect our personalities. And why not? Most of us spend an awful lot of time behind the wheel. Why not take the time to figure out exactly what kind of vehicle both meets our needs and tells the world, “Hey, world, here I am!” What do different types of cars say about their owners? Pickup truck drivers tend to be hardworking and no-nonsense. People drive hybrids both to save money on gas and because they care about the environment. Drivers of sports cars like to feel powerful and attractive. Do you kno ... read more

Hybrid Myth Busting

Hybrid Myth Busting

Myths have been a part of automotive service forever. Time to bust another one; All the talk about "corroding buss bars" in Hybrid Battery Packs misses the more major point; the internal corrosion. As the battery creates electricity, electron flow is created. Plate particles float in the electron flow from the negative pole to the positive pole. Because of the magnetic property of electricity, these particles "stick" to the positive, creating resistance, in the same way as "corrosion" does on the buss bars. Eventually this internal corrosion will cause the Hybrid light to come on. Most shops and all dealers just replace the battery. There is a better choice. Do you know what it is? $50 CARS of America gift card to the first person that sends the correct answer to [email protected]. Winner will be determined by time stamp. P.S. It's ok if you don ... read more

An Auto Repair Shop that LOVES to Recycle? Tell Me More...

An Auto Repair Shop that LOVES to Recycle? Tell Me More...

Here at CARS of America being “green” is something we practice daily in both our Glenview and Evanston locations. Our goal is to not only help the Earth, but to improve everyone’s health while helping you save money! There are a variety of things we do to be Earth-friendly, here are a few: We use waste oil heaters. These EPA-approved units allow us to burn engine oil and transmission, differential, transfer case and brake fluid to heat our facilities. By burning the oil the chances of oil leaking or spilling while being transported to a recycling facility are reduced. It also helps us decrease our carbon footprint and dependence on virgin fossil fuel. We recycle fluids such as brake fluid and coolant, metal such as exhaust pipes and wheel bearings, and all the tires we collect when we install new ones. By recycli ... read more
