4 signs your hybrid battery needs to be reconditioned or rebalanced

We use this machine to We use this machine to “stress test” your hybrid battery. This will help us determine if its in good health, needs to be reconditioned or rebuilt.

When you own a hybrid car or truck, one of the most important elements “under the hood”—or in this case, in the trunk—is the hybrid battery. And until recently, when that battery failed, you’re only choice was to spend $4,500 to replace the entire battery pack.

But at CARS of America, we can rebuild or recondition your hybrid battery for less than half the price of a new one and we guarantee it for 3 years.

How will you know if your hybrid battery needs to be reconditioned or rebalanced? Here are four signs:

  1. The gasoline engine kicks on more often than it used to. When the battery is depleted or tired, the electric motor doesn’t have the power needed for the car to function normally. The vehicle compensates by running the gasoline engine more often.
  2. The fuel economy drops by 4 to 5 mpg. When the gasoline engine is running more often and the electric motor isn’t running as much, the car will use more fuel.
  3. The vehicle doesn’t accelerate like it used to. If the battery is only half charged compared to when the car was new, it simply won’t be able to give the electric motor the power it used to.
  4. The “battery power available” bar graph may show only 1-2 bars instead of 5 or 6. When the car is new and the battery is in peak condition, the bar graph will show 5 or 6 full bars when you’re accelerating to get to highway speeds. When the battery is weaker, the graph will let you know.

If your hybrid is showing any of these signs, call the hybrid vehicle specialists at CARS of America in Evanston or Glenview. We will be happy to answer any of your questions or schedule a battery “health check” for your hybrid.
