Pothole gotcha? Save $25 on wheel alignments—after we inspect it for free

Guzzle guard: Gas-saving guidelines

Gas ain’t cheap. Talk about stating the obvious, right?

Chicago’s gas prices started the New Year at around $3.55 for a gallon of regular, and now they've painfully passed the $4 per gallon mark. The national average is at $3.75 a gallon.

Perhaps this is the result of pent-up demand from the down economy, and many consumers are finding they need to replace their aged, worn vehicles. If you’re among those consumers who are considering a new vehicle, we urge you to consider these five factors before taking that plunge.

   


 

New car under warranty? You’re not bound to the dealer for service needs

With recent news that new cars are flying off the lots, we thought it was a good time for a reminder  that you’re not required to use the dealer when your new car is under warranty.

We know this is a common misconception because we often hear, "Oh, you guys are wonderful, but I bought a new car. I’ll be back as soon as the warranty is up." If this were by choice, that would be one thing. We would be sad to lose them as clients for a few years, but we would understand. Sadly, however, too many consumers switch to the dealer because they believe they have to.

Let us set the record straight: You are never required to use the dealer, even when the vehicle is under warranty. Most motorists want the dealer to cover the cost of warranty repairs, which only makes sense, but you may want to go elsewhere for your maintenance. Here’s the difference.
